History of the Museum of the Goldfields

The building that presently houses the Museum of Goldfields was initially constructed as a municipal hall in 1898. In 1900 a portion of the structure got converted into a courthouse and then later into the Kalgoorlie police station in the 1940s.

The vision for a museum in Kalgoorlie came into existence when a group of passionate historians established the Hannan's North Tourist and Educational Centre in 1974, which then developed into the Museum of the Goldfields in the year 1992.

Today, the Museum continues to provide a learning experience for those who feel passionate about Western Australia's remarkable history and its impact on the current times.
